LA's "Wiredness" Measures Up to Be Kind of Wired-less

usingMacLaptops.jpgHmmm...Where does Los Angeles rank in the nation when it comes to internet access?

Just how "wired" are we in Los Angeles?

A Forbes.com survey took at look at several factors, including the "percentage of Internet users with high-speed access, the range of service providers within a city and the availability of public wireless hot spots" and determined how all of the cities in the country measured up.

Think we're pretty wired? Think again. Los Angeles took the biggest nosedive in this year's standings, coming in 27th (a fall from our previous 11th place position.) The analysis of the results determined that we got our placing "based on lackluster results in all three categories, particularly in the number of broadband access providers." Ouch! Here in LA we have 11 broadband providers; the city that took first place is Atlanta, and they have 17 providers. Which is close, but no cigar high-speed internet connection. Ahem.

Cities that had us beat but came in behind Atlanta are #2 Seattle, #3 Raleigh, N.C., #4 San Francisco, and #5 Orlando.

Looking for free WiFi? Check out these two lists of places in California and LA where you can get your wireless on without spending any cash.
