LAist: Movie Review: Cloverfield

Saw it last night and I've got to say, it was OK. It's pretty unoriginal except for the filmmaking style. I think this movie will be polarizing (lots of disagreements in conversation as people walked out) but as somebody who loves monster and horror flicks I was disappointed.

Blair Witch was, is and forever shall be awful. The Last Broadcast kicked its ass in every way possible except, of course, the box office.

Blair Witch meets Godzilla is a handy way to refer to Cloverfield and is also completely wrong. They only share the most basic elements of tools and story. It would be like saying Die Hard is Towering Inferno meets The Day of the Jackal. Cloverfield is a completely unique and brilliant movie. When you're watching that DVD, you're going to be saying to yourself, "Why did I wait so long to see this?" Certain movies need to be seen on the big screen. This is one of them.
