In its first weekend of wide release, The Bucket List charged to the top of the box office. Its tally of $19.54 million ($20.9M) just edged Ice Cube's First Sunday which debuted with an even $19M. There was some talk that upstart Juno might win the weekend crown, but it had to settle for a still healthy $14M ($71.2M). It now seems certain to reach $100M while holiday stalwarts National Treasure: Book of Secrets ($11.4M/$187.2M) and Alvin and the Chipmunks ($9.1M/$187.7M) continue to chug along towards $200M.
Leading the second half of the top 10 was Christmas champ I Am Legend ($8.1M/$240.2M). After that it was One Missed Call which looks like it will make its money back ($6.1M/$20.6M). After weeks of just sort of hanging around I think we can now call P.S. I Love You a solid mini-hit ($5M/$47M). That's likely not the case for The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie which opened with a weak $4.4M. Surprise Golden Globe winner Atonement rounded out the top 10 with $4.3M ($24.2M).
