After questioning 1200 Los Angeles County residents in a survey, Metro might be confident it could get the two-thirds stamp of approval from voters if such a measure went to the ballot. If passed, it could generate $4.5 billion within 6 1/2 years, according to an investigation by the Daily News.
That amount is nearly enough to pay for the 'Subway to the Sea' Purple Line extension. But unless county residents as far as Gorman, Claremont and the Antelope Valley can have faith in a butterfly effect of one sole project 50 miles away from is worth their money, then the billions of dollars is going to have to be spread more evenly.
And as of right now, Metro has not formally announced a plan for this money. "We have to have a plan for what those dollars are used for and a guarantee that they will be used for transportation and traffic," Valley Councilwoman Wendy Greuel told the Daily News. And the lovable Jack Keyser, chief economist for the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., told them the sales tax increase will be a burden for many with the rise in gas, housing and unemployment.
Without knowing much, would you vote for a half percent raise of our sales tax, from 8.25% to 8.75%?

LA is in desperate need of better public transportation.
Sales taxes are only slightly less cowardly than cigarette taxes.
I do think that public transit is a do-or-die situation, but sales taxes are one of the most regressive ways to get it.
In all honesty, it should be a property tax. Or at the very least a tax on gas or some other part of the automotive industry.
Yes, I would gladly pay it.
Make it 9% and a 3/4 cent increase so we can build these projects even quicker.
