Art Is Where It's At (Venice)

tikifront.jpgThis unexpected Tiki God has materilized on Mildred Ave. between Pacific and Dell--steps from my weekend gig in Venice. A few weeks back when I caught a glimpse of a resident with a machete, I was a little concerned. Thankfully, this friendly neighborhood Tiki was the result!

I wonder if he is meant to be Lono, the god of Peace, or Kanaloa, the god of the Sea, or just a whimsical protector of the local calle vida? I plan to leave a small offering to him (perhaps a tourist?) the next time my friends need street parking on a weekend.

Yesterday, I noticed a neatly plained stump just to the right of Mr. Tiki, which suggests that soon he will be joined by one of his kin (or maybe the whole family as there are other stumps nearby.)

And for those of you who are gonna argue with me that he's really a mysterious refugee from Easter Island, I say, "No worries Bruddah, it's all dakine."

This is exactly where I used to live, on Mildred at 313 between Pacific and Dell. There are some characters for sure in this short block. I'm going to have to go down and check it out, thanks Lori!

A little bit of the old Venice rears it's head - Yea! Can't wait to to see the how next head turns out.
