Pencil This In: Wednesday

Giant Robot at the Japanese American National Museum

It’s the first day of work for many of us -- and it pretty much sucks. Thank God it’s a short week. If you haven't gotten enough going out for the New Year, here’s what's going on around town tonight:

PARADE REMNANTS
If you want to see the Rose Bowl floats before they go off to the big parade in the sky, you have until 4 pm today.

Noon to 4 pm // Post Parade: Showcase of Floats // Along Sierra Madre and Washington boulevards, Pasadena // $7.

FILM
German Expressionism is on the bill tonight at the Silent Movie Theatre. F.W. Murnau's silent film The Last Laugh (1924) features Emil Jannings playing a proud porter who’s demoted to washroom attendant.

8 pm // Silent Movie Theatre // 611 N. Fairfax Theatre, Los Angeles // $10.

ART
Pop-culture magazine Giant Robot assembled works by 10 cutting-edge artists for Giant Robot Biennale: 50 Issues. Showcased artists are: APAK, Gary Baseman, David Choe, Seonna Hong, Sashie Masakatsu, Saelee Oh, Pryor Praczukowski, Souther Salazar, Eishi Takaoka and Adrian Tomine. The exhibit ends on Jan. 13.

Until 5 pm // Giant Robot Biennale: 50 Issues Art Exhibition // Japanese American National Museum // 369 East First St. // $8.

COMEDY
Three audience members are chosen to show off their MySpace pages, which are then “turned into long form improvised comedy scenes based entirely on their profile” by the Upright Citizens Brigade. This just reeks of cringeworthy comedy.

9 pm // Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre // 5919 Franklin Ave., Los Angeles // $5.
