The Mud Run: Cure To Your New Year's Resolution

Camp Pendleton's Mud Run Climbing Wall in a Mud PitYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. People want to lose weight this year, get in better shape, look good naked, blah, blah, blah, blah. Does it actually happen? Sure, some do. But most? We all know that reality.

The problem for some is motivation. We've found one excellent way to walk the talk that is a little more than six months from right now. It's called The World Famous Mud Run, a 10K Adventure/Military race outside of San Diego that's part of Camp Pendleton's Hard Corps Race Series.

What is it like? For starters, it's a 10K so that means 6.2 miles. Totally doable, right? Okay, now add in a 2-mile hill climb. Yeah, it burns. Throw in a few mud pits with climbing walls, four or five fire hoses soaking you down, a few 1950s style army obstacles and an extremely steep and wet hill called "Suicide Hill." It's safe to say that running the Mud Run in June is a goal to work towards... starting today.

The race, which will happen three times in June (7th, 8th & 14th), sells out quickly. By January 15th, good chances the most popular day, Saturday, the 7th, will be sold out. Give it one more week for the whole race to be sold out. Registration began today and we're ready to get active again after a sluggish month of heavy food and tiring travel. Time to start training for that, ugh, 2-mile hill. We love our pain.

I did this for two years and its a ton of fun. My friends on my teams weren't runners, but they still had a blast. It took use almost two hours, but we finished. The worst thing about it is the cold shower at the end.
