Groucho Marx in Duck Soup

It’s pretty quiet today in LA. So take another Alka Seltzer and rest up for work tomorrow.

FILM
Spend New Year’s Day in a dark theatre with a double feature of the Marx Brothers. In the 1933 satire Duck Soup, Groucho plays a newly-appointed prime minister who declares war on a neighboring country for no particular reason. It also marked Zeppo’s last film. Following is1932’s Horse Feathers. Groucho stars as the new president of Huxley College, where his son (played by Zeppo) is “romancing Thelma Todd and Harpo and Chico have to kidnap the star football players from rival Darwin.”

5 pm // Aero Theatre // 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica // $10.

TV
There’s more on TV than USC-Illinois in the Rose Bowl. The Twilight Zone marathon is on the Sci-Fi Channel all day. Stay in and count how many cigarettes Rod Serling holds in his introductions.

All day // Your house // Free.

BOB DYLAN
On KCRW, Patti Smith hosts four hours of music, stories and conversation about Bob Dylan's life and music.

Noon to 4 pm // 89.9 FM or kcrw.com // Your house // Free.
