Preparations for the Tournament of Roses Parade

According to the LA Times, the National Weather Service is reporting that a windy a New Years Day Tuesday could have sustained winds of 25 mph and gusts of winds that could blow small children away at 50 mph. Luckily, though, "Pasadena itself will probably be sheltered from the worst of the wind." Rain is likely to come next, however, it's expected later in the week, letting the rose parade continue its tradition as a sunny event.

Today is expected to be sunny, with high temperatures close to 70 degrees. The wind, however, will probably be underway, initially with gusts up to 40 mph.

On Tuesday, New Year's Day, the weather service is predicting sunshine, with highs in the low- to mid-70s and northeast winds sustained between 20 and 35 mph before weakening in the afternoon. The Rose Parade is to begin at 8 a.m. that day, the game at 2 p.m.

Due to the wind advisory, in Malibu and Santa Clarita, strike teams have been deployed. The combination of high winds and low humidity make perfect for easy fire starting, hence the National Weather Service's Red Flag Warning. In the city of Los Angeles, fire officials have not called a Red Flag Parking Day, which disallows parking on narrow hilly roads, as of 10:00 a.m. this morning.
