The famed Vanity Fair Oscar party location and Power Hollywood hang-out, Morton's, has shut down for good, and the space will be cleared out by January 2nd. Word has it the space will soon be transformed into an oh-so-trendy SoHo House (yes, like the one in that "Sex and the City" episode. The Los Angeles Times reported last month:

"For the last 14 years, it has been the site of arguably the hottest Oscar-night party in town, hosted by Vanity Fair. The restaurant's tables have been occupied by moguls, artists, prime ministers and an endless spate of celebs. Now those tables -- and the chairs, glasses and silverware -- are to be put up for sale. Pamela Morton, who has run the place, declines to discuss the reason for the closing, but after Morton's serves its last dinner Dec. 22, almost everything in sight will be sold -- banquettes, mirrors, even the plants."

You can still stop on by this afternoon to say farewell and perhaps get your own little piece of Morton's history: the restaurant is selling off lots of goodies and trinkets, including its excellent wine selection, cookbooks, and even the leather booths (only $1,000 to own a piece of Power Hollywood). EaterLA has pictures here, and Dana Harris of Variety says good riddance: there are plenty of places for the glitterati to eat out in this town.
