There Will Be Blood is here at last!

I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but There Will Be Blood is my most anticipated film of the year, and it finally starts today at the Arclight. Part of me doesn't want to even mention this since it will only spur more people to crowd the theater tonight. The better half, though, thinks it's worth announcing since Blood is sure to go down as one of the best films in what has already been a very strong year--maybe the finest since 1999.
There are many superb actors working today, but who would say there is a finer one than Daniel Day-Lewis? Bill the Butcher and Newland Archer are two of my favorite performances ever and grow in stature every time I watch Gangs and Age of Innocence. Likewise, I enjoyed the work of P.T. Anderson when he was a tyro, but lately I've really come to love it. How many times have I seen Boogie Nights and Magnolia? Ten times apiece?

the Bill the Butcher character is one of the most fantastic performances i've ever seen. it caused me to revisit the Last of the Mohicans... and if DDL is in this movie, i'll certainly have to check it out.

It's a good film, but Paul Dano is in way over his head, acting wise.

The reason I mentioned Newland Archer alongside Bill the Butcher is that it seems frankly impossible that the same actor played both roles. I only wished Day-Lewis worked more. It's hard to believe he's only made 9 movies in the last 18 years.

I'm really curious to see Dano actually. I haven't been overwhelmed by him to date, but what I've heard about his performance in Blood has me hoping.

I've been a love slave since "My Beautiful Launderette." Let's face the awful truth: the guy was even hot in "My Left Foot"!
If they filmed him sleeping, I'd watch it on a loop.
