Well, regardless of when they came out, they are still some fine choices. And in the end, isnt that all that really matters?

Ha, this is funny.
I feel like I should respond!-I had heard of or listened to some of the older records on here a while ago, but i really didn't have time or brain space to dig in. Additionally some of the records on here i would have put on a list for 2006! or even 2005! because they are still my favorite and I found myself going back to them more so than anything I heard that came out this year. So, yes I know some of these are old-my head isn't in the sand! but making music and also being a music listener at least for me, it's hard to let records in sometimes-you know the ones that you get obsessed with....these are the records, if I'm honest, that inspired or continued to inspire me the most this year, not the records I heard a couple times and thought were good. Maybe I'll get obsessed with those in 2010! :)

The idea of your average "top ten of 2007" is to actually choose records that came out during this year. However, my prompt as well as the italicized subtext comfortably set beneath each list, delineates my intent: I wanted to find out what captivated these artists, regardless of the year in which is was released.

People often forget how close to impoverished most musicians actually are. It's not like they get the latest, free records sent to them in the mail. That'd be nice, but they simply hear of records from friends and others. That means of word of mouth is much slower in comparison to, let's say, oh, the internet. Hence the placement of old albums in new lists.

I thought the idea of a "top ten of 2007" was to actually choose records that came out during that year. Just an idea. (Although, Midlake and Field Music are fine choices)

Love Let's Go Sailing, but it looks like Shana had some catching up to do this year. Seven Swans? The Slow Wonder? Both terrific albums but old, old, old. I appreciate the Elvis Perkins mention, though.
