LAist: LAist Interview: Zach Behrens, Editor

Apparently Behren's core values as an editor are keeping his writing staff happy and making sure nothing is ever written that offends his readership. Not a bad way to avoid ever rocking anyone's boat, but as a prescription for anything other than mediocrity, it sucks. So you'll get lots of movie reviews, cookie recipes, cute anecdotes about the dangerous parking ticket situation in LA, but any voice that dares to offend the editorial staff or stir up controversy with the readers will run smack dab into Behrens and his writing crew, who have appointed themselves the V-Chip of this blog, controlling what you, the adult reader, even has a chance of seeing. Nice work, and I can see it from his point of view: he's landed a big promotion and doesn't want to make waves. That appears to be how he is going to handle this job. Good luck to him... RJ 93/93

But what I really want to know is what do you see for the LAist with you as editor? I really was hoping to hear about Zach's view of what the LAist is and should be, and any ideas he has about things changing (or staying the same) [hc] hc, Yes, you will start seeing changes and new additions. If you haven't noticed already, we've brought more news in the mornings, Pencil This In at 1 p.m. and are working on more interviews to kick the day off with. You'll see a continuation of The Neighborhood Project, monthly food series, Tonight in Rock and other series that Tony brought. We'll add to that by bringing you modern dance/ballet, more local and hyperlocal news, more green, more bars, more spas, more finds, more South LA, more San Pedro/Long Beach, more Pasadena, and other surprises to come. Stay tuned for LAist in 2008!
