Ann Summa's Raucous Reception: Part 1

doorsHave I mentioned before how amazingly cool Track 16 Gallery at Bergamot Station is? Over the years they have consistenty catered to my personal taste. It's like they know, Man, and I'm starting to get a little paranoid--gleefully paranoid. I hope they never stop. Not only do they put on opening receptions for art shows, but they often tie in other related events like book signings or films and they do the closing reception thang, which is often even mo' better than the opening reception.

Last Saturday night they delivered, yet again, in a big way. As a send off to photographer, Ann Summa's Los Angeles show, bands and performers from the bad old days of early L.A. punk played in the gallery. Dude, it was both awesome and bitchin.
Having already covered the excellent Summa photog show, I was only planning to attend and have fun, but intrepid girl reporter and queen of the camera, Elise Thompson, was running late. So technophobe me was forced to take a few quick snaps of the early performers.

First, Phranc folked hard...

and made us all do the hokey pokey for auld lang syne!

Phranc!

Then Mike Watt and the Missingmen took to the stage.

and purged anything that was illin.

It reads Watt.

Okay, this one happened later, but I have to share the serendipity of the background with yah. That's Rob of the newly re-dubbed Urinals.

The one shot I regret not getting was a bee-oot-ful mirror image in flannel of Phranc and Watt jamming. Damned loaner camera! What followed were more astounding performances by the Human Hands, Chairs of Perception/Urinals and the ever-lovin Dead Beats, but by that time Elise arrived. So, I'll turn it over to her expertise in part deux of what you all missed!

Hey LAist. Nice pics. FYI... It's Ann Summa. Not 'Anne'. The bands were great.

Yes, that damned E, it wasn't supposed to be there. Mea culpa's to the gracious and talented, Ann. I'm just gonna blame Elise...Ouch! I can feel her psychically pinching me from here.
