These come straight from my mom, the master. (Complete with long disclaimer about how we used to use margarine, but now that's bad for you, and we really should use oil instead of butter, but she hasn't figured out how much yet, so this'll do.)
Cocoa cookies
1/2 butter, Spectrum shortening, or any non trans fat
1 cup raw sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup cocoa
1 3/4 cup unbleached flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup nonfat milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Farenheit.
In a mixing bowl, cream together first 5 ingredients.
Sift together (twice) flour, baking soda.
Add milk and mix until smooth.
Drop cookies on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 minutes. Makes 6 dozen cookies.

is that 1/2 cup butter or shortening?
Butter or margarine, I believe?
1/2 cup seems right considering the other amounts. Sorry I missed that.
ok just wondering cause it just says "1/2" and didn't say if it was a cup or what. i assumed it was a cup.
i made these yesterday and they are good! mine just didn't come out as dark as yours...maybe i should add more cocoa? also when i cooked em for 8 minutes on the center rack, they got a little burned. they turned out better on the top rack.
anyway, great recipe!
