Good rules...I regift like crazy. I have a garage full of crap. It's not secret that 99% of the gifts I receive from people suck so I give them away. My friends know this and for whatever reason still choose to buy me crap. For kids parties, if I don't know the kid or parent that well, I'll give them something out of the garage. We have a large assortment of toys and clothes for kids aged 0 - 5.

My MIL is bad about the re-gift, but we're delighted as we'd rather have her castoffs instead of something she chose herself. For Christmas, I receive the earrings I gave her for her birthday, so I choose wisely. She likes tacky gold-looking things and I prefer silver, so I'm guaranteed to get them back. She gives us gifts her students gave her, complete with her name still on the box.

And the parties are a good idea, but can get a bit sticky if you're regifting stuff and the giver is sitting right next to you.

To tell you the truth I can't find my throat singing cd. It was given to me as an up front re-gift about 5 birthdays ago and I actually liked it but it's the sort of thing you can only listen to once a year. I wonder if I re-gifted it already? Perhaps, like fruitcake, there is only 1 Tuvan throat singing cd that get's passed around.
