Pencil This In: Thursday

Frankenstein (Mortal Toys).jpg

ART: Downtown’s Art Walk happens the second Thursday of each month. The Art walk is a monthly, self-guided tour of the art exhibition venues in Downtown Los Angeles, which includes commercial art galleries, public museums, and nonprofit arts venues. Museum of Contemporary Art on Grand Ave (MOCA), Los Angeles Public Library Grey Goose, LA Artcore Center are just some of the places on the Walk.

12-9 pm // Downtown Art Walk // Downtown Los Angeles // Free.

MUSIC: Largo, one of our favorite venues in LA, is hosting the Watkins Family Hour tonight. Dinner's already booked up, so fans of Nickel Creek should fall in line outside the Fairfax club now.

9 pm // Largo // 432 N. Fairfax, Los Angeles // Call for info.

THEATRE: Nothing says Christmas like Frankenstein. Mary Shelley’s monster returns to the stage this week only -- but you've probably never seen it like this before. This show is held within a small proscenium frame using puppets based on 18th Century American portrait paintings, and lush sets inspired by Romantic era landscape painting. "Projected film and shadow puppets emerge from this central set to provide windows into the souls of the man and his monster.Frankenstein (Mortal Toys) reveals an uncanny world of melancholy, loss, and existential longing." Tonight's opening performance is sold out, but tickets are still available for tomorrow's and Saturday's shows.

8 pm // The Velaslavasay Panorama // 1122 West 24th St., Los Angeles // $15.

DANCE: A little Latin Burlesque, anyone? This class fuses with Latin rhythms with a touch of burlesque. It features bolero, cha-cha, rumba, and cabaret and using props like hats, chairs and others. All levels are welcome.

8:30-9:30 pm. // Heartbeat House Dance Workout Studio // 3141 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles // $7.
