Golden Globe Noms Announced

2008 golden globe nominations announced in los angeles "Atonement" leads the pack of nominees for the 2008 Golden Globe Awards with seven nods, including top actor nominations for both leads, Keira Knightly and James McAvoy. "American Gangster," "No Country for Old Men," and "Sweeney Todd" also garnered nominations; you can read a partial list of the nominees here at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association website. Hayden Panettiere, Dane Cook, Ryan Reynolds and Quentin Tarantino read the list at the Beverly Hilton at some ungodly hour of the morning.

There weren't too many surprises in the top categories, although a whopping seven films were honored with a Best Drama nod. Critical fav "Juno" was nominated for Best Musical or Comedy as well as Best Screenplay for Diablo Cody. Awards-season veteran Cate Blanchett got not one, but two nominations, one for Best Actress in a Drama for "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," and a Best Supporting Actress nom for her impressionistic imagining of Bob Dylan in "I'm Not There."

The Golden Globes also honor achievement in television -- the awards ceremony this year will certainly be an interesting opportunity for artists to make statements about the writer strikes. Nominees for Best Television Series are "Mad Men," "Damages," "Big Love," "Grey's Anatomy," "House" and "The Tudors."
