New Green Day Side Project

Foxboro Hot Tubs' 'Stop Drop and Roll, a Green Day side projectOkay, so in case you haven't heard, Green Day now has a new side project to tack onto the list, right smack under The Network. (You remember the Fembot song. Billie Joe's vocals did sort of give them away, but it was still exciting.) This one was reportedly leaked in a Green Day blog (are we talking "The Idiot Club" or what? I can't get in there, you have to pay), and is titled Foxboro Hot Tubs.

You can download six songs from the nifty record-sleeve website, and listening now, they sound pretty damn good. "She's Not A Saint She's A Celebrity" is a really good track, probably my favorite out of the six, although "Stop Drop and Roll" is a lot of fun too. Much is probably going to be made of the more 60s sound (especially "Red Tide" which smacks of The Kinks' "Tired of Waiting", ironically already covered by Green Day back in the 90s...And come to think of it, "Highway 1" is a bit like "Till The End of The Day" in the beginning). But only "Stop Drop and Roll" is really very different from Green Day's normal fare, so it's not a departure, just more good times. Although I do believe Billie Joe's voice gets better and better as he gets older. The guy just sings on air, with guts and that cool bit of vibrato.

The Network is on Billie Joe's Adeline Records, but there's no mention of Foxboro Hot Tubs on the label site yet. It may not even be the whole band in this one, so sit tight for more info. In the meantime, go download and check 'em out yourself. (They also have a myspace.)
