Now that Thanksgiving is over and Christmas Tree shopping is in order, it's a good time keep in mind that when it comes time to get rid of that tree, you can recycle it.

If you have a green yard trimmings container, then you can the tree up and place it in there. If not, it's a good thing the Department of Public Works is already pushing their Christmas Tree Recycling Program that will be held on January 5 and 6 at twenty-eight locations all over Los Angeles. Fifteen fire stations and thirteen Recreation & Parks facilities will be drop-off points. The latter locations will have free green give-aways such as trees from Million Trees LA, a compact fluorescent light bulb (they really do save you money) and coupons for free mulch.

And if you think you can just leave your tree at the curb, you're wrong. Trees left at curbs, alleys and streets cannot be collected. Per Los Angeles Municipal Code 57.21.06, it is illegal to leave trees at the curb or on street due to extreme fire hazard.
