LA Opera Offers Solution to Westwide Traffic Hell

Inside LA Opera's Luxury Motor CoachThere was an article in the LA Times some time ago about the Downtown arts and culture scene suffering Westside patronage due to rush hour traffic. Unless residents we're already Downtown, buying a ticket to a play, symphony concert or opera was not worth the frustration stuck in traffic.

On Wednesday, the LA Opera announced their new weekday service to take ticket holders on a luxury motor coach from the Federal Building in Westwood to the Music Center and back for $15. Opera programs will be available, as well as pre-opera talk audio on a "state-of-the-art sound system."

Though, for those who want other alternatives, the 720 Rapid with a Red Line transfer to the Civic Center Station is an option (on the way back, the last westbound 720 arrives at Colorado and 5th in Santa Monica at 1:07 a.m.) as well the Big Blue Bus #10, which will get you Downtown from Santa Monica, but since it does not run later into the evening, an alternative such as the Red Line/720, must be used.

The LA Opera service is available only on weekdays and begins on the Tuesday, November 27, the first weekday performance of Don Giovanni.
