Jenny Owen Youngs

New Jersey singer/songwriter Jenny Owen Youngs (MySpace), whose song "Fuck Was I" was on Weeds, is arguably best known for her connection with the controversial and self-described "Queen of All Media" Perez Hilton, whose championing of her music led to visits on her MySpace page reportedly leaping from 2,000 plays a day to a whopping 60,000.

Youngs debuted locally in December 2005, "...in front of a rather industry crowd of artists, label dorks, and Nic Harcourt," and has since occasionally made her return here, including a month-long residency at Hotel Cafe in March 2006 (which is where I first discovered her and her hysterical sense of humor). Recently, she was part of a "Perez Hilton Presents" showcase with locals Meiko (MySpace) and Emmy Rossum (MySpace) as well as Eric Hutchinson (MySpace) at the El Rey Theatre.

Saturday night, Youngs wrapped up her current American tour with Jim Bianco (MySpace) and Sean Hayes (MySpace) with a performance at Bordello.

Her shows usually include a cover song, whether it be Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone", Nelly's "Hot In Here", Oasis' "Wonderwall" -- even Beyonce -- and this one was no different, ending with the befitting Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication."
