Box Office Review: Geats win!

While it easily won the weekend box-office crown, Beowulf disappointed somewhat with a 28.1 million dollar opening. If it's anything like Zemekis' last film Polar Express, though, the amazing 3-D will continue to pull in audiences for weeks to come. Having seen it at the IMAX theater at the Bridge, I can say that it is totally worth the price of a ticket. Bee Movie stayed strong in its third week, adding $14.3M and raising its cume to $93.8M. American Gangster and Fred Claus were close behind with $13.2M ($100.9M) and $12M ($35.8M), respectively.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium actually opened in more theaters than Beowulf but only brought in a woeful $10.0M. After that it was Dan in Real Life ($4.5M/$37.1M) and, in wider release, No Country for Old Men ($3.0M/$4.9M). Lions for Lambs continued to stagnate ($2.9M/$11.6M); Saw IV saw a drastic cut in theaters ($2.3M/$61.8M); while Love in the Time of the Cholera disappointed in its debut ($1.9M). In limited release, Margot at the Wedding soared ($41,500 per theater) and Southland Tales crashed ($1857 per).
