Drink $200/lb Coffee for Free Tomorrow in Silver Lake

intellegencia will be giving out the worlds most expensive coffee

It's called Hacienda la Esmeralda's Geisha coffee, it's award-winning, it's super rare, and for wholesalers it cost $130 a pound at auction - if you can get it.

The newish Intellegencia coffee shop on Sunset (right next to the Silver Lake Conservatory) got some and will brew up cups of coffee tomorrow from those magic beans for whoever would like to experience what the most expensive coffee in the world tastes like.

Eater LA tells us that the free-for-all begins at 7pm tomorrow at 3922 W. Sunset Blvd., in Silver Lake. If the joe really does taste 25 times better than regular coffee, you can buy a bag of the beans for the low, low price of $99 a half pound... or $59 for a quarter pound if you're pinching pennies.

I LOVE Intelligentsia coffee. It really does taste fantastic, but $200/lb. coffee? Whao- I thought I was splurging at $15.

Peet's had this coffee..and because of their good standing with the growers were able to sell 1/2 pound bags of it for $25. This coffee really and truly is amazing. It's got the most amazing toasty quality to it...like roasted marshmallows. I have 3 1/2 pound bags of this stuff at home and am hoarding it like nobody's business.

I'm not a fan of intelligentsia. I've gone there twice and both times was served flavorless coffee. When I brought it up to them (nicely, might I add), they just tossed a free drink voucher on the counter. I gave them a second chance (hence the 2nd visit) and was still served a cup of weak flavorless coffee. It's a shame, too...I was really looking forward to the silver lake store.

Oh well...

are they selling it by the cup?

Is this that coffee that's fermented in the fecal matter of Indian civets or some such shit (literally)?

if you mean the beans pooped out by monkeys, no i dont believe so. but if it is, i hope someone will let us know before tomorrow.
