The Hives @ The Avalon, 11/7/07

Last night garage-punk rockers the Hives got to show off their new stuff for the LA crowd at the Avalon. Armed with new material from their new CD The Black & White Album, the Hives broke down the walls and rocked the hell out of the crowd.

Dressed in their typical 50's style getups, the band enters the stage without any opening acts. Resembling more of a Southern Baptist preacher than a rock star, Howlin' Pelle Almqvist ignites his familiar antics, preaching the word of the self-appointed Best Band in the World to "Lawss Anjeleez"

The group played a decent mix of music spanning their four albums, thus pleasing both long-time fans and new listeners alike. After seeing their show a few years ago when Tyrannosaurus Hives came out, its quite clear the the crowd has changed. That show at the Wiltern had a barely-containable mosh pit while the Avalon crowd was filled with your typical arms-crossed head-bobbers.

What's cool about the Hives is how accessible they are, both musically and physically. Musically, its like, What's not to love? They're a punk rock band at heart with some of the best stage presence and energy you could ever hope for. And while they are in fact worldwide superstars, they still find time to have a cigarette and chat with their fans. Although the new album deters from their punk rock roots in favor of a more produced sound, cheers to the band for all their success. You can catch the Hives tonight as they perform at the Staples Center with Phantom Planet and Maroon 5.

They look so stylish like the Palast Orchester. Hope they'll pamper us with their great shows full of energy for a long time...
