If Friday was payday, I'd go to Izayoi on Central for piles of yummy, Jonathan Gold-approved izakaya-style dishes. But since it's not, I'll go to Suehiro on First for cheaper but almost-as-yummy down-home Japanese cooking. Both accompanied by as much Kirin beer as my bank account allows...

It's gonna be the red line to 7th/metro center, then a couple of blocks to Yorkshire Grill (with the best sandwiches you'll ever eat. and yeah, that includes Phillippe's on Alameda). After that, Famima!! for Bearded Papas and then then then finally Joanna Newsom.

Friday night, we'll arrive downtown just after six and grab an empty meter on Grand. We'll walk down to McCormick and Schmick's for their tasty and cheap Happy Hour menu. We'll stumble up the hill to Disney's - with visions of old Bunker Hill victorians dancing in our souls - and slide into our free seats thanks to LAist. After the Joanna Newsom enchantment, we'll slip over to Pete's at 4th and Main for some midnight macaroni and cheese with Stoli martinis. Can't beat a Friday night like that with a stick.

There are a LOT of cool-sounding restaurants downtown I've been meaning/wanting to try, and would love to go to (Blue Velvet, J, the new-ish one on top of the building with the sweet views..Takami..?). However, more than likely I'll get some carnitas tacos from that dude who sells them on Broadway near 5th--cheap & delicious.

I've never been there, but I'm thinking about Traxx at Union Station. It's not cheap, but looks fancy and the atmosphere looks romancey. I recommend taking the Red Line/Gold Line/Bus to Union Station, eating at Traxx, and the taking the Red Line to the Civic Center Station (a block away from Disney Hall) to enjoy the show. PS - You can count me out of the contest, I've already got tickets (unless these are rad front orchestra tickets, then you can count me in hehe)
