Foodie Round-Up: Yes, the Senate is Going to Screw Up the Farm Bill

- You know who makes a lot of sense? Michael Pollan does. If only he had the ear of the Senate as it prepares to pass a sorry, sorry Farm Bill.
- I love alcohol in unusual, fruit-oriented containers. Slashfood turns us on to this pumpkin keg -- yes the beer was actually brewed inside the pumpkin shell. Expect to see one of these at an LAist party near you very soon.
- It's good to know that despite natural disasters and massive personal tragedy, at least those seeking refuge from the fire at Qualcomm Stadium were able to indulge in some really good eats. Californians do it up!
- People can't decide which of these recent LA Times articles is the most douchey: Diner's Rights or How to Blog (According to Somebody Who Finds Most Bloggers Slightly Despicable).
- Jonathan Gold points out the dearth of Mexico-City style restaurants around town -- and then points you in a few promising directions. Hey, isn't Gardens of Taxco also Mexico City family style cooking?
- Taste Buzz takes a stroll through the Hollywood Farmer's Market -- which one is closest to you?
- The Industry collaboration with Craft continues! Vanity Fair's annual Oscar night party will be held at Colicchio's place this year.
- Man I love it when other people go to town on Michael Bauer -- and Dana Harris does it so well. I'm starting to suspect, though, that Bauer's opinions of the LA restaurant scene are entirely the fault of the Los Angeles Times. Oh hey, by the way, the Bay Area has no celebrity chefs? And Alice Waters didn't go on The View a few weeks ago?
- " The Next Iron Chef" is legitimately entertaining, although it does basically copy everything "Top Chef" did (except they also have Alton Brown). Serious Eats has some recaps if you want to catch up.
- Your weekly dose of Communist hilarity: Soviet food posters from English Russia/>. Can somebody please tell me what is going on in the fifth picture down?
