Great pics, but just a corrections, the mill is in western San Bernardino County, not L.A. County, also half the mill is still in operation, employing just under 1,000 employees.
Other things the mill is famous for, it is used continually by Hollywood studios. Most recently "Ironman" starring Robert Downey Jr. Other films that have been filmed at the mill are, Mission Impossible 3, Silverstreak, Terminator 2, Blackrain, Nightmare on Elm Street 2, and the opening scene in the movie Class, starring Rob Lowe. Also Greenday has filmed their music video here as has Babyface.
Other things that San Bernardino County are famous for, it's home to the original Mc Donalds, the home town of Travis Barker of Blink 182, Gene Hackman, and Sammy Hagar.

Much of what Davis expected to occur in LA didn't come to fruition and I don't know the book would feel outdated today but when I was writing my undergraduate thesis I carried it around like a bible... my copy is underlined and highlighted so many times over it looks like an art project!

Thanks very much polaroidgirl. I gave my copy of City of Quartz to someone else almost immediately upon finishing it some 10 years ago. I think it's the best analysis of the LA to that point.

Damn now I want to read it again to see if it holds up... ©
