Traffic Alert: Sepulveda Blvd. closed in both directions at Century Blvd. (plus Red/Purple Line Update)

Sepulveda Blvd at Century Blvd is closed until 5 a.m.

A water main break has closed the northbound and southbound lanes of Sepulveda at Century and is estimated to reopen at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning according to a press release just released by Caltrans:

Los Angeles – The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that a Department of Water and Power (DWP) 36-inch water main break has caused the closure of northbound and southbound Sepulveda Boulevard at Century Boulevard in Los Angeles. Estimated duration of the closure is approximately 5 a.m. tomorrow, October 17.

The westbound I-105 freeway off-ramp at northbound Sepulveda Boulevard remains open – and traffic is being diverted to Century Boulevard in order to help facilitate Los Angeles International Airport traffic.

Sepulveda Boulevard traffic is being detoured east and west onto Imperial Highway.

Signs are posted and flaggers are on site to assist motorists. Traffic delays may be experienced.

Time to find another route if you commute in that area.

Update: Metro also announces delays tonight on the Red & Purple Line subways: "Tuesday, October 16, system maintenance is scheduled between Westlake and Vermont/Santa Monica from 9pm to close of service. All passengers traveling to or from Wilshire/Western or Wilshire/Normandie need to transfer at Wilshire/Vermont for trains to North Hollywood (lower level), Union Station (lower level) and to Wilshire/Western (upper level). Trains departing Union Station will proceed to North Hollywood only. A shuttle train will operate between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/Vermont on the (upper level). Metro realizes the inconvenience all Blue Line customers will face during this period. We ask for your patience and understanding."

so this was why traffic was backed up on sepulveda to like..well...where the 10 and the 405 meet.

I was stuck on that street for half an hour driving 2 miles wondering what the deal was before giving up for another day.

Sigh.

Sorry we didn't catch you before silentstorm. We posted it as soon as we got word. Next time, next time.
