Tell Me You Love Awkward Sex on HBO

Tell Me You Love Me

I don’t have upgraded cable at my home, so whenever I visit my mother, I take the opportunity to catch up on shows on my favorite channel- HBO. During the last visit to my mom’s, I immediately plopped on the couch, flipped to channel 500 and was surprised to see an old couple going at it. Now, this wasn’t a husband and wife having quiet sex on their bed. No, grammy was full on riding her husband on a chair.

I wouldn’t have been surprised to come across this crazy sex scene on Cathouse at 3 in the morning, but I was watching HBO at 4 in the afternoon. What's this show? Turns out, it’s called “Tell You Love Me,” a show that takes an “unfiltered look at three couples as they navigate critical periods in their lives.” Basically, it follows them as they struggle to worth through the sexual aspect of their relationships, as well as their epic intimacy issues.

LAist reported on it back in July, when there was rumors going around that “Tell Me” would show full on penetration. From what I’ve seen so far, I haven’t come across that, however I have seen a guy eating out a girl, a wife going down on her husband, masturbation and balls. And boy, the show can depict a mean sex scene. Each one looks very, very real and sometimes I wondered whether or not the actors were actually having sex. According to wikipedia, they’re not. You be the judge.

Obviously, the show isn’t filled with just sex scenes but the acting simply doesn’t outshine it. All the characters seem to do is whine about how they’re not having sex or how it’s ruining their lives. In truth, the issues they're dealing with are real, but the characters themselves have grown flat. Sex ends up becoming depressing. The only one that seems to be happy is the 60-something year old therapist that counsels the three couples.

Back to old people having sex…it looks very awkward, right? Of course, I want to be having sex well into my silver years, but watching it just makes me want to put my hands over my eyes and loudly hum a song.

Although the show isn’t a Six Feet Under or Big Love (I’d rather watch a Polygamous family any day of the week), it definitely should be checked out, if only to see sex explicitly depicted on a cable show.

Tell Me You Love Me is on HBO Sunday’s at 9 PM

This is my new favorite show on HBO! I was sad to see the Sopranos end but happy to see this start!

i love to masturbate to the scenes where the old lady's getting her titties sucked!

eh, I think it blows.

I couldn't even get through the first episode. I wound up fast forwarding to see the sex and was so unimpressed I never tuned in again.

Its like the characters talk right past each other!!! Whoever writes this show must be an interesting conversationalist, monologist. Then, everyone takes off their clothes and shows off their what-ever-age bodies, and have proto sex. All this is cleverly punctuated by the characters doing cool, currently hip activities (except smoking) and sooner or later its over. Except the angst of no one talking to each other. Yawn.

I think this is the sitcom spinoff of the Neil LaBute film "Your Friends And Neighbors". A bunch of really unpleasant people bickering followed by some nasty, joyless sex. Big turnoff.

I wonder if participant's family is also settling every afternoon in front of its TV sets to support relatives? A true family show based on true family values...
