How to rent apartments in LA

An LA ApartmentThe LA Times business section has a nice little basic primer on one of LA's favorite pastimes, finding an apartment in Los Angeles. It includes one of the best and overlooked tips ever:

You'll want to find a place where you feel safe and at ease. [Mark] Verge [owner of Westside Rentals] recommends driving by a potential apartment multiple times -- on different days, at different hours -- to scope out the neighborhood.

"That is one thing that drives me crazy; these kids only look at these places during the day," he said.

"No matter what you rent -- I don't care what it looks like during the day -- go with your parents at night."

The drive-by approach can also clue you in to potential traffic and parking problems. Is the apartment close to shopping? The freeway? Public transportation? These are things to check out before you sign a lease.

Thank you Mr. Verge! We can't tell you how many times we hear people complain after they move in about the terrible parking situation at night. If you're going to invest hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars a month, you might want to do a little more field research.

I think you should pretty much assume that unless they guarantee one spot (gated/carport/whatever) for every person living in the unit, there'll be a terrible parking situation. That's the nature of the beast.

God I hate apartment hunting.

I had a great time using westisde rentals. Moving to Culver City, and eventually to Mar Vista. A few of the places I called were rented, but for the most part the service was good. The beauty is that they have operations on live chat 24/7 and that i can call to get an actual person, and never a machine.

I didn’t find out about westside rentals from a friend, or from their signs. When I moved from Arizona I made the tragic mistake of using two other companies who i won't mention, but my only good experience came from westsiderentals.com at least for los angeles and santa monica apartments. Look, i'm not saying that 60 bucks is a lot of money, i know it is... but how often does one move? anyway, i paid it and i'm happy... my 2 cents.

The best way to find apartment in los-angeles is just to get registered with westsiderentlas.com, and leave rest on them. They have more than 19000 listings for apartments near los angeles. I am sure anyone can get their dream apartment from them easily within couple of days only.

With WestsideRentals.com around the corner its fun to search an apartment in area of los-angeles and santa monica. With increasing listings of about 20,000 apartments right now, is just amazing.

I got apartment from westsiderental.com few months before and till now there hasnt being any kind of interference from landlord side. Plus i am enjoying there 'member benefits'.

Funny how the people who either work for Westside Rentals or are somehow moved to praise Westside's services by spamming comment threads are very poor spellers.

More like Westside spammers ;-p
