• This accident on the 5 may tie up traffic until tomorrow: authorities are still counting only 3 casualties, but who knows how drivers will react to the construction and clean-up now taking place.
  
• First the water, then the power, now the phones? Mayor Villaraigosa is proposing a 9-percent phone tax. This isn't to pay for the DWP's 16-percent wage increase, hmmmm?
  
• Are they so uncool they can't even sustain a neighborhood newspaper? The Westside Chronicle is dun-zo; the publisher blamed his inability to "find a managing editor 'who knows how to write a 500 word news story'."
  
• Boeing has agreed to fund a 30-year decontamination program for the toxic Santa Susana test site above Simi Valley.
  
• There's going to be a Pomona Freeway closure Monday night between 11pm and 5am -- watch out commuters! The 60 freeway will be closed overnight beginning at 11 p.m. in the San Gabriel Valley on Monday, in both directions between the 605 and 7th Avenue in Hacienda Heights.
  
• The American Cinematheque honors a woman who's kept her head down, worked hard, made a lot of money, and is happily married with kids: Julia Roberts is looking pretty good these days.
  
• So, basically all of the grad students who keep Shakespeare alive every day in their classrooms and in their research can't afford to go see one of the finest actors of any generation interpret one of the greatest characters in all of literature. Huh.
