This Weekend in Theatre: Gen Xers, Abuse and Angst

Sorry for the lateness of this column...computer problems just bite. Anyway, this week's theater picks are filled with abuse, angst and comedy -- but not necessarily in the same show:

Lost Angeles
Ten Gen Xers – including a scientist who’s gotten himself a date with a beautiful woman whom he had been stalking and a woman who’s scored a MySpace date with “the world’s hottest lesbian” – are trying to find their way in the real world. (Yes, it’s been done before, but unless you check it out yourself you’ll never know if it’s been done well.)

Lillian Theatre , 1076 N. Lillian Way , Hollywood. (323) 960-7774.. Tickets are $18, Matinees, students, seniors and actor union members, $15. Opens Saturday at 8 pm. Runs Fri. and Sat. at 8, Sun. at 7, except Nov. 11 and 18 when performances will be at 2 p.m. Also, select Thursdays at 8 p.m. until Nov. 18.

Little Secrets
Little Secrets
It’s 1962 in a Florida college dormitory. Jarrett is a pathological liar who’s focused on dominating his new roommate with psychological games of power and sexual blackmail. His too trusting roommate Don is beginning to lose his sanity under Jarrett’s power play. Will he be saved from the brink?
The Space, 665 N. Heliotrope Drive , Hollywood. (323) 661-2585. Tickets are $20 at the door $15 online. Runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 and Sundays at 7 pm until Nov. 18.

Mustang Sally
This drama focuses on female teachers who have sex with their underage students. As this play begins, 31-year-old Kathy’s affair with a 13-year-old student has been uncovered. Kathy’s older sister steps forward to help her deal with the repercussions.

Always…But Not Forever
Written by Henry Jaglom, this play—loosely based on a 1985 film by Jaglom – focuses on a woman who tries to salvage her marriage from an impending divorce. He wants to move despite the small, tiny little problem that he still loves her.

Edgemar Center for the Arts. 2437 Main St., Santa Monica. (310) 392-7327. Tickets are $20. Previews this weekend. Runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm through Dec. 9. Dark on Thanksgiving.

dark play or stories for boysA young boy creates a web identity and then leaves the confines of the Internet. Carlos Murillo's play focuses on obsession, love, and betrayal -- with catastrophic consequences.
Boston Court Theatre. 70 N. Mentor Ave., Pasadena. 626-683-6883. Tickets are $30. Previews Previews tonight at 8 pm. Opens Saturday. Runs Thursdays to Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm until Nov. 18. Meet playwright Carlos Murillo and director Michael Michetti for a Q&A after the matinee this Sunday (10/14).
