Crumbs Bakeshop, a New York haven of baked goodies, has staked claim to 9465 S. Santa Monica Boulevard. If that address sounds familiar, it is about two blocks east of LA cupcake mecca, Sprinkles. With flavors at Crumbs like Oreo, Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough, Reese's, Heath Bar, and M&M, the difference in style is clear. Crumbs has the warm feeling of an old-time candy store. Nostalgic childhood favorites Twinkie, Hostess Cupcake, Fluffernutter, and Devil Dog sit next to the classics Red Velvet, Key Lime Pie, and Blackout. The friendly staff loves to tell customers about all of the flavors especially the Artie Lange, a chocolate and vanilla cream cheese extravaganza.
Several times I have stopped by to find the cases loaded with amazing choices. One of my favorite cupcakes, Caramel Apple, is popular with their NY customers. They also offer cakes, cookies, pastries, coffee, and several choices of iced tea. My head is spinning and I am feeling a sugar high just thinking about my next visit and whether I'll bring home the Back and White or the Pistachio.

With hundred of flavor choices, Crumbs will bake to order any combination for custom cakes too. Our family gobbled up my brother-in-law's Caramel Apple Birthday Cake. Last week I visited the bakery and fell in love with a new cupcake flavor, three words- Boston Cream Pie. When you are ready for your sugar rush, Crumbs is open until 10:00 pm weekdays and until 11:00pm on the weekend.
