Foodie Round-Up: Late Nights, Lengua, and The Golden Clogs

- We've (finally) had enough of Thai Food: this month, we are checking out all sorts of late-night dining options, from the Valley to Hollywood to Culver City to Venice: Mao's Kitchen, Nak Won House, El Gran Burrito, Little Toni's, Gaby's Mediterranean, Nova Express Cafe, Greco's New York Pizzeria, Cinco de Mayo.
- Psst! Hey, hey, Mr. Gold? Ix-nay on the owards-hay. Nobody's supposed to know about it. You hearing me? Capisce? Otherwise, feel free to check out any one of his cheap lunch recommendations for Culver City.
- LA Observed's Veronique Turenne won third place in a Malibu Pie Contest last weekend -- "some famous faces, sure, but mostly regular people eating pie, enjoying the sun and watching their kids play."
- Oh! So this is why out-of-towners think that restaurant dining in Los Angeles is Douchebag Central. Hint: check out OpenTable for even those hard-to-get last minute reservations. As of 11:15 this morning, you can even get a seven p.m. table at Chinois on Main.
- Writer Michael Ruhlman and his roustabout pal Anthony Bourdain have announced nominees for the First Annual Golden Clog Awards: categories include the Alton Award, for best television personality who can actually cook.
- The real taco connosseurs enjoy the taste of lengua, or tongue: The Ethicurean experiments in offal and cooks up poached beef tongue. Warning: pictures may be NSFV (not safe for vegetarians).
- One of the hardest working chefs in Hollywood (and one of our favs), Suzanne Goin, tells Fodor's what she does to relax, where she likes to enjoy a cocktail, and where she'll be doing her Christmas shopping this year.
- The LA Times gives Craft THREE STARS. Three stars! That is called the OPPOSITE of being Tom Colicchio's redheaded stepchild.
- Americans are truly the People of the Corn: and two filmmakers are setting out to educate the public about how to change the food system for the better.
