Los Abandoned @ TarFest, 10/7/07

Los Abandoned at TarFest 2007, Lady P and Vira Lata

"This is our last song ever," shouted Lady P, still catching her breath from the previous number. My friend and I exchanged strange looks as if it were the apocalypse and somehow we didn't get the memo. Perhaps the La Brea Tarpits were boiling over and about to suck us in or some crazy Toxic Avenger shit was about to go down.

Turns out we did miss the memo, but lived to tell of Los Abandoned's final performance. After seven years together as a band, they announced last Friday that they were splitting and Sunday was their final show.

With their edgy, new wavy beach-meets-valley indie-pop-punk sound and alternating English/Spanish lyrics, Los Abandoned laid down a perfect soundtrack for early 21st Century Los Angeles.

The audience at TarFest clearly did not want the show to end and there was a good deal of singing along, fist-pumping, and getting down. They had come along way since their 2003 TarFest performance on the rooftop of LACMA and on Sunday they laid out their rock n' roll hearts on the Miracle Mile one more time, bringing closure to their "dream-come-true."
