TV Junkie: Monday Night Picks - Beware the Onslaught of New Shows

8-11pm CBS - All new episodes of: How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory (series premiere!), Two and a Half Men, Rules of Engagement, CSI: Miami
8:00pm The War PBS - I think PBS completely effed this up by taking this great series head-to-head against a week of season and series premieres on the networks and cable. They should have shown it last week or the week before where there wasn't jack-shit on TV. Whaddaya think the kids are gonna do this week: choose scary and depressing shit in B&W or tightly packaged ass in HD?
8:00pm Dancing With the Stars ABC - Season premiere. Scary Spice vs Jennie Garth and other battles.
8:00pm Chuck NBC - Series premiere. I think this show looks awful. It might be great, but NBC didn't send LAist no previews so I'm going to have to go by the promos as well as a truly obnoxious 10+ minute-long preview in a movie theater over the weekend. It was 10+ minutes long and I didn't see anything about the show that I didn't see in the commercials on TV - I want my 10 minutes of life back NBC!!
9:00pm Heroes NBC - Season premiere. Check out this great post by Julie Wolfson on some flicks the cast made.
9:00pm The Bachelor ABC - Season premiere. Now the man bait is an entrepreneur.
10:00pm Journeyman NBC - Series premiere. I'm gonna have to make this my pick for the night since it stars Kevin McKidd who kicked ass in HBO's Rome, a favorite series of mine. This show might be a gimmicky flop but there's nothing else on at 10pm. Oh wait, another hour of The War is on.
11:00pm Charlie Rose PBS - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad makes another appearance on US TV.
12:05am Jimmy Kimmel LIVE ABC - Kanye West, Jeff Garlin
12:35am Late Night With Conan O'Brien NBC - Jim Gaffigan (with another episode of Pale Force I hope!); Rilo Kiley [UPDATE: NBC has informed me that YES, there will be a new episode of Pale Force and you check a preview out HERE]

"Chuck" is good--quite good. I saw it On Demand. Zach Levi makes for an appealing hero. The only quibble I have is with its depiction of Echo Park. It's really Echo Park by way of "Melrose Place."

ok so maybe's it's a packaging thing. I _hate_ the way they packaged this thing and that theater preview was very very badly received, everyone in the theater groaned and hissed after that thing went up there. thanks for your note raul

I thought Chuck was tolerable. The premise and the writting is weak but it's fairly light-hearted, the actors and the settings are just pretty enough to keep you interested and you get an okay mix of comic book action and loud crashes and explosions. I'll probably watch it, if there is nothing else on.

heroes was ruined by those godforsaken nissan "pressure drop" ads.

About the War - it was originally scheduled to air last week, but the controversy over the depiction of Hispanic involvement pushed it back a week.
