"hardcore shooter fans who have been the bread and butter of Microsoft's ascent to console dominance"

most of them stick to the PC i thought...but xbox HAS been doing a good job and is fairly shooter-friendly. And i don't think any games are particularly kind to
"noobs"...its easier on a console since most people dont have headsets/keyboards to talk trash

At a stunning 29 years of age I bet my sister $20 that I'll be the oldest guy at the Gamespot in El Monte tonight. Hit me up Powers, at Gamertag: City of Quartz

Finishing the fight!

You forgot about the highly anticipated finale to the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, that will be coming out soon on only the Playstation 3.

to the comment by Johhny, don't be afraid of some youngsters online talking noise this years features allow for you to mute everybody except members on your friends list and in your party. The best time to jump on this game and enjoy it is at the begining since many people will have friends over and most will be getting used to the game. if you can play the battle field and rainbow six series you will have no problem catching onto this one. It will be a great game and with the addition of 4 player mulit c0-0p there will be something for everybody. Sure this game will have some faults but i think its better than the Hate-Fest that was Halo2.

#2...My game review of Halo 3 (which I've been playing since I got my press copy Saturday) and a Q&A with a game expert on how a noob can get into Halo 3 are coming in the next couple of days, so don't despair.

Good points Ryan. I was thinking about breaking RTS into another category, but I thought it reasonable to leave them together since I've seen so much overlap between the genres. Same goes for what I've seen with Madden folks and action games. When they're not playing Madden, they often seem to be playing Devil May Cry, Tekken, etc. I just think those three I mentioned are the BIG three, and most regular gamers would have classified themselves as one of those.

Hmm...interesting post, but I disagree on several points.

1. I wouldn't have lumped in "Madden gamers" with people who like action games. Most hardcore sports gamers stick to sports games. If anything, action gamers should have their own category and you could argue that those who love survival horror games would have one too.

2. The same thing with Real Time Strategy players, there's a huge number of RTS fans and I think they'd go above and beyond RPG players (witness Korea where the entire country is obsessed with RTS's).

3. What about fighting games? The Tekken, Street Fighter, Soulcaliber loving group deserves their own catagory.

4. What about platformers and those who love classic games?

I just got my Xbox a few months ago. That's too bad to hear about the Halo gamers. If people are going to be like that then I'll just stick to Battlefield and Rainbow Six. I meet enough a-holes in everyday life. I rather not waste my gaming time on them too.

hahahah awesome! I think mine might be the only serious gaming household in america right now that isn't lining up to get Halo -- although we still have Bioshock and The Darkness to get through.

(Yup...we're RPGers!)
