Win Tickets for Rufus Wainwright This Sunday!

Rufus Wainwright

This Sunday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m., it's Rufus Wainwright Sings Judy Garland night at the Hollywood Bowl.

Following his acclaimed 2006 tribute to Judy Garland's 1961 Carnegie Hall concert, Rufus Wainwright will be performing that famous set at the Hollywood Bowl with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and a handpicked quartet paying tribute to Judy's famous follow-up show at the landmark venue in Los Angeles.

And you can be there too! To win a pair of tickets, all you have to do is leave a registered comment saying what your favorite picnic foods for the Hollywood Bowl are. Personally, crackers with an array of olive tapenade, hummus and brie cheese followed by fresh fruit and topped off with red wine is our way. But you might have a different take.

The contest ends by the end of today. So get commenting!

Bristol Farms makes AMAAAAAAZZZZZZZING picnic baskets! While I would love to make my own, I am generally too busy reading LAist to do so!

vodka martinis

well of course cheese and crackers, but also strawberries and grapes. I feel like a greek goddess!!

Gotta keep it real: A big box of Franzia, spam musubi, and a couple of j's in rotation to keep everyone happy!

call me crazy, but i'm craving panda express for tonight's arcade fire/lcd soundsystem picnic.

take away sushi and the big bottles of asahi!

Ok, I know this isn't DC (dietary correct), but I'm all about the fried chicken, potato salad and corn bread! Beer or wine, depending on the mood.

Ok, I'm all about fruit....so fruit salads and fruit kabobs galore. Sparkling cider and water top it off nicely. Is it lunch time already?

fish and chips and guinness

i love a nice crusty bread with any soft creamy cheese, plus a stilton, fresh berries, an olive assortment, cured italian or spanish meats and a bottle of sparkling white wine...delish.

Prosciutto, camembert, arugula, tomato sandwhich on a french baguette with blackberry balsamic and a little olive oil......strawberries with honey and of course a couple bottles of wine. Tonight i'm bringing a pinot noir.

wine... lots of it. cheese and crackers. grapes. strawberries. chocolate. did i mention wine already??

I've been wanting to take a picnic from Doughboys, complete with french onion soup and red velvet cake. Ooh, it's almost lunchtime!

anything with LSD in it

Mine would be figs and goat cheese rolled in prosciutto; cave-aged Gruyere and crackers; dried figs stewed in rum and cinnamon; and a decent bottle of red wine. And next time I won't forget the prosciutto rolls in the fridge, either.

Brie and Red Wine all the way. Now GIMMEE THOS TIX! Thankyou!

My favorite has been a caprese sandwich from Bay Cities in Santa Monica, grapes and something bubbly.
A nice brie with bread/crackers is always great to start and anything sweet is a good way to top it all off.

Whole Food's new vegan 'chicken' breast sandwich(made from gardien) with avacado, veganise, lettuce and tomato on toasted whole wheat roll.

with:
Stacy's Cinnamon and sugar Pita Chips or Uncle Eddie's chocolate chip cookies

to drink:
Martinelli's apple juice OR a Naked Juice Citrus Shake.

basil/heirloom tomato/goat cheese on top of rosemary foccacia bread, with a little bit of balsamic vinaigrette.

Sauvignon Blanc on the side.

Deli meat, veggies, condiments, and bread for DIY sandwiches
Caesar salad with homemade dressing on the side
Watermelon or melons
Prosecco

Warm tofu banh mi with homemade pickled carrots and daikon and a lot of sriracha... Jasmine iced tea... yum.

I have a cooler bag that holds 30 cans of beer. Wine is good too but, come on 30 cans of beer always wins. Just that and a roll of fresh french bread. Obviously, then a Super Taco stop on the way home...

fried spam

I agree witha person above (or is it below?)! The Doughboys picnic pack!

Bottle of red, gouda pimento on wheat cut into small triangles, spicy olives, baby kiwis, and wild strawberries. Dee-lish-us!

i'm happy with a fresh baguette, some good cheese, grapes and strawberries.

Some spicy tofu sticks and kale salad from Whole Foods, some kind of chocolate-y deliciousness and a bottle of red zin....god, I'm STARVING now...thanks...

The Westside Club from Whole Foods, a killer sandwich. Order without onions if you don't like onions, freak. A bottle of red wine to go with it (Mirasou label, around 9 dollars), but it's important to bring a picnic basket or something to hold the wine in when the show starts because nothing is more annoying than the sound of wine bottles falling and rolling around after the show starts. This will happen but at least you won't be contributing to it. No appetizers, because you need to leave room for dessert and it's too many little bits if you're eating in a box or in a row. For dessert, something precious and special and small and chocolate, like the great desserts from Jinn's Patisserie in Venice.

Anything that has involved the Magic Bullet Blender (TM) in any way, shape or form. That thing is amazing! I recommend the guac.

barbituates, hard-boiled eggs and dom perignon. this was marilyn monroe's favorite picnic combo. it causes the most horrid farts, which can be used to ones advantage in the event of any obstructed views.

Call me a romantic but theres nothing better then herby tabouleh, Figs and prosciutto ham, cream cheese desert with freash mix fruit topping and a bottle of champagne.

personally, i like some sort of cheese danish with a side of fresh strawberries. i also like homemade bread and berry jam..

pita with hummus is spectacular, along with some fresh fruit and a good Irish cheese. and can't forget the wine, any kind really.

Chips with homemade guacamole! And wine. Lots of wine. Probably white.

the perfect picnic?
you, me, and ignmar bergman eating frog sandwiches in the woods.

Burgers from Father's Office
Dark Ales
Polenta Fries

Thats what I would bring

Vietnamese sandwiches from KP's deli.

Sandwiches and wine from greenblatts deli on Sunset....
And maybe a joint.

gelson's picnic meal, decent wine. yum.

Turkey sandwiches on crispy French bread with avocado and garlic aoli, tomato and mozzerella salad with basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar, and homemade sangria (in excess). Trader Joes brownies for dessert!
