Earlier this month, Antebi became the youngest, first American, and first Jewish moustache champion in the history of the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Antebi is also the, uh, face man, of LA glam-funkers Conquistador. Still gotta problem with facial hair, LA? LA Weekly's Daniel Hernandez discovers Santería in Hollywood and later questions the departure of LA Times assistant managing editor Janet Clayton. Who's responsible for all of these bad moves at the Times? The 26-year-old Hernandez blew in and out of the Times nearly as quickly as his tenure at the Weekly, which we learned this week will be pre-empted for a book project. And, yes, the Weekly is still offering staff positions in Cleveland.

The Long Beachcomber previews this week's city council hearing at which curbs may be placed on the mansionization of Long Beach. "This could be a knock-out punch to the failing market looming over the industry," says one real estate vet.

And the Malibu Surfside News reports (pdf) that September is Rehab Month -- as if the city council had to choose one specific month (page 7). “One of my favorite quotes is, ‘Those who go under rehab are just quitters,’” the article quotes Mayor Jeff Jennings as saying. The city council then went on to approve a pricey contract with its rehab lobbyists in Sacramento (page 3).
