Tom Neely - Self Indulgent Werewolf
Los Angeles based artist Tom Neely has been on my radar for a long time, so I am really looking forward to his first solo show here in L.A opening this weekend! (Stay tuned for my interview with him next week!)
A child with many allergies growing up, Neely spent a lot of his youth in bed reading classic comic books. Trained as a painter, the comic book influence is still clear. His art has evolved over the years from whimsical child-like stories to tackling more mature themes, illustrating the human experience.
Self Indulgent Werewolf has been recently described as “everyman’s evolution from regular guy to werewolf”. The exhibit includes 34 paintings and will be a chance for fans new & old to pick up his new graphic novel entitled The Blot. Beer & wine will be on hand along with Aaron Turner (of ISIS) spinnin’ the tunes. There is lots of nudity in this show, so make sure you leave the youngins at home!
Opening Saturday Sept. 15th 7-11pm
Black Maria Gallery
3137 Glendale Blvd. (in Atwater Village)
runs thru Oct. 15
