There was a show on TV a couple years ago that went into various body modifications, and included a story on a girl doing exactly the same, only with not so much...er...clothing.

I think people who tell other people to get psychiatric help need it themselves.
I find it very intriguing that even now adults feel the need to cast stones. What is it about themselves that they hate so much they have to try to make other people hurt to make themselves feel better? If we are talking about adolescent things to do, how about adding mocking something you don't understand to the list?

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but if it isn't supportive, why don't we all act like grown-ups and keep it to ourselves?

I think it is fascinating. It is interesting, the different ways people will test themselves. When you think about it, rock climbing can be even more dangerous, and sky diving is 20 times more risky, but know one is going up to rock climbers and telling them they are freaks.

that looks intriguing. having been pierced 3 times i can say that for me there is an endorphine rush associated with it...and definitely not for everyone. then again i used to hang out for hours with needles in my arms; donating platelets of course.

To the first poster, she doesn't need psychiatric help, and I think its an amazing thing to test yourself this way. And if there is any euphoric moments during the experience, then its a bonus, and a gift. Pain is just a sensory response to a given stimulant, and meditated upon, pain can become euphoric. As long as you are safe, use the situation to lose the fear of pain that's inherent in us.

No, people that need psychiatric help are those who hurt others to get off, or hurt themselves to gain attention. There may have been a small crowd, but in the end, there were only four people (not including the piercers) meant to view this, hardly a cry for attention. And everything about the procedure and ritual was safe, sanitary and monitored. Thanks again for having us there.

"I support her" - smile.

Yes, #9 is referring to the sun dance. There is a center pole, like a tree trunk, and (usually only men) insert two piercings in their chest (some say under the pectoral to hold them, others say only under the skin and that the point is to eventually break the skin). They are attached by long cords to the pole, then they all lean back. It is more of a ritual of endurance, as it goes on for I think three days, on and off, under the hot sun. Their loved ones surround them and support them. It is partially a sacrifice, partially a way to receive visions. My dad used to have a photograph on the wall he took of a re-enactment (It is disrespectful to photograph the ceremony). That picture to scare the hell out of me as a child).

So is it purely spiritual, and you get a high from the endorphins, or like the modern primitives, is it kind of a turn-on?

Brave, unblinking stuff this.

I may be repulsed but I'm all for putting it out there and letting people come to their own conclusions (too bad some can't do it without feeling the need to condemn and demean).

The Indians used to do something similar, but at least they stoked up on peyote first. They said it brought them closer to God, too, or was it their hallucinations? Maybe this is kind of like cutting with an audience cooing approval -- they tattooed guy behind her looks like exactly the type for it, but you're right, "it's not for everyone." It's one thing to say it's okay for "someone," but if your gf needs to do this, you've got some issues, too, and I don't care if that sounds "judgmental." Some things need to be judged and questioned.

She loved it! She was smiles as she was hanging, and she was happy as a clam when they inserte 6 gauge hooks on her back and arms. They also suspended a 220 lbs guy after her. It's not for everyone, but as long as it's consentual and no one else gets hurt, I support her.

And someone tell all the sissy la la's to stop poo pooing.
Yes, that was adult, and I meant it.
