You mentioned that larry craig & mark foley were republicans but you didn't mention that our honorable mayor is a democrat. Any reason?

Is there any reason you left off barney frank, james mcgreevy, gary condit, gary studds [insert long list of democrat names here] and focused on republicans?

Taking responsibility isn't the issue. Integrity is. Antonio lied about his affair even as it was going on -- remember back in January when he stopped wearing his wedding ring? It wasn't because he had lost weight, which was his explanation.

When ambition outstrips a sense of how to behave decently, these problems happen. Or, simply put, they do it because they can. That politicians can't always get away with it seems to up the ante for them even more. It's a pathology they share.

Grover Cleveland and (even worse) Warren Harding, whose alleged mistress later wrote the howlingly entertaining book "The President's Daughter," lived in an age when news did not travel fast. The press was more respectful of leaders, sure, but they also could control the flow of information. Privacy is difficult to maintain now, although one wonders about the rumors that Bush senior had a mistress in office -- they seemed to evaporate. Maybe the previous generation was more deft at handling such things with discretion?

Not that it matters much, but my spelling should be: indiscriminant not indescriminant

Carry on!

How odd it all is, right? I don't know what to make of all these indescriminant news stories.

Do public officials think or believe they are stripped of their own privacy rights completely?

Do these people know that they don't have to answer every question asked of them? (Tell that to So-gone Gonzales) Of course, their admissions before proof (proof!) is all too acceptable in our gossip hungry society but it is never required except when under oath.

Ask yourself, Politician, Is this act, whatever I'm doing, violating an oath? Then the important follow up question: "Which oath does it violate?" "Is it a private oath or one of public interest or safety?"

Do we have to siftout everything for them?

Come on government officials, leaders! Know your media! Know the rules! Learn what media needs to know and what they don't---don't try to lead them!
