Box Office Review: Awesome! Another re-make!

Michael Myers returns...oh, who cares?

I'm not sure which is more confusing: that Halloween was released over Labor Day or that there are apparently a lot of people who wanted to see it. Obviously (for the first time in awhile) the Weinstein brothers knew what they were doing as Rob Zombie's "re-imagining" of the Michael Myers' franchise took in a better-than-expected (record-setting, in fact) 26.5 million dollars for the weekend. Thankfully, in a rare show of taste, audiences chose hold-over Superbad (12.2M, 89M) instead of crappy newbie Balls of Fury (11.6M).

After that, it was the excellent Bourne Ultimatum (10.1M, 199.6M), the shitty Rush Hour 3 (8.5M, 120.4M), the is-this-funny Mr. Bean's Holiday (5.9M, 18.9M) and the needed-nudity Nanny Diaries (5.1M, 15.2M). Newcomer Death Sentence grossed a weak 4.1M, followed by a collapsing War (3.6M, 16.4M) and a lingering Stardust (3.0M, 31M). In limited release, Ladron Que Roba A Ladron, garnered a respectable 1.5M on 340 screens, while Self-Medicated did nothing ($2262 per) and the trippy The Nines debuted strongly ($11,750 per).
