LAst Night's Action: Galaxy Lose $1,000,000 to $250,000,000

That about sums it upPachuca 4, Galaxy 3 - With a cool million bucks on the line, the Los Angeles lost the final of the first ever SuperLiga tournament. After the Galaxy scored an own goal in the first half, they tied it at 1-1 in stoppage time on a brilliant bicycle kick by Chris Klein. Quarter-billion dollar man David Beckham sprained his knee and could be out another 4-6 weeks. At this rate, he won't be around to help the Galaxy fail to make the playoffs. Better luck next year.

Dodgers 10, Nationals 9, 12 - It was a long one in Chavez Ravine. The game lasted over four hours and temps reached almost 90 degrees, as Washington put up a struggle for 12 innings. The Dodgers won on a sac fly by Shea Hillenbrand, who also had one of the Blue Crew's three dingers. Los Angeles has won four straight and is within 3.5 games of first in the division, as well as the wild card. Who woulda' thunk that a couple weeks ago?

Angels 8, Mariners 2 - The Halos created some breathing room on top by sweeping second place Seattle. Over three games, they outscored their division rival 24-8. Garret Anderson helped with a 4-for-5 performance on Wednesday, and Jeff Mathis and Vladamir Guerrero both went yard.

Elsewhere - A man in Florida gave his 13 year old son steroids in hopes of helping him make the national roller-skating team.

Today's Action - Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada. But the weather is awesome, so go outside and play something yourself.

I know it's fun to spout $250,000,000.00 every time Beckham's name comes up, but a little journalistic digging will unveil the real number over 5 years is closer to $50,000,000.00. Stop being lazy and fanatical.

Yes, it is fun to spout $250,000,000.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever wavered from the quarter-billion figure when it comes to his overall compensation package.

As for being lazy, I first pointed out that his compensation is mostly from alternative sources the day after the story broke:

Regardless of how it technically lines his pockets, it's guaranteed money that wouldn't be paid to him if he wasn't damn good at kicking a soccer ball. And it's a lot of money for a guy leading his team nowhere.
