I consider my "Why USC Football is Lame" post to be balanced. =P

Just kidding. But seriously, don't you Trojans have a prestigious school of journalism? My friend once told me he wanted to go there for it but then I just laughed straight into his face for a couple minutes and that was the end of that. You'd think someone would step up to write something about USC's sorry excuse for a football team. Geez.

Adam rocks btw. If I like USC at all it's only because of him.

#6 - Thanks for the comment, I'm definitely familiar with the 1960s reference to the Gary Beban glory days. It's just frustrating that 40 years later, we're still in the same boat - it's nice that we have some players with heart, but there's no reason for the vast disparity in talent that there currently is between the two schools. It's a direct reflection of the fact that the program isn't where it needs to be that we can't bring in the players to consistently be a Top 15 level team, next season's recruiting class notwithstanding.

Ali - even though I'd much prefer you guys to be 0-11 than 11-0 heading into December, hopefully both sides will have something big on the line when we hit the Coliseum. There's nothing better than a big rivalry game!

Just as a minor point of clarification, Musberger's prnouncement that the 'gutty little Bruins' had pulled through wasn't a Musbrerger invention - indeed, it was a moniker coined for the Bruins way back during the days of Tommy Prothro in the 1960s.

The term actually stemmed from the fact that UCLA often defeated USC despite being slower, and generally regarded as less athletic. The term actually was meant as a complient, in so far as UCLA teams were commonly expected to have much greater 'heart' than their USC contemporaries.

Completely agree on all the other points, though. Color me unimpressed with the entire Karl Dorrell era. If he doesn't win at least 10 and make a serious push for the Pac-10 title with the team he has this year, it ain't ever gonna' happen.

If you noticed that post, you may have also noticed the retort "Why USC Haters are Lame" which ran about a year ago.

Due to my responsibilities with the USC sports blog at latimes.com, I will not be doing coverage of USC sports for LAist, otherwise I would have been all over the football preview. Instead, that means there's a great opportunity for somebody else with the know-how and interest (heck, why not two people? Three?). You up for the task?

My intention isn't to turn this comments section into another Watts Neighborhoood Watch fiasco, but c'mon...

Maybe I just focused too much on posts with titles like 'Why USC Football is Lame' and overlooked the USC Football Season Preview, right?

Hey NickR, our sports editor's name is Adam Rose, who not only does an excellent job covering 'SC, but he also happens to be the Los Angeles Times's USC sports blogger.

If you read LAist on a regular basis, you might just find that we are fairly even-handed in our coverage of both programs. Despite the fact that SC sucks hairy balls, but that's another matter entirely.

Go check out our staff page, read some past entries, and then get back to us, k???

As a blog I guess it's natural that LAist reflects the contributors views and opinions but the favortism of UCLA over USC seems egregious given the tradition of the rivalry, and what I'm sure is a divided readership.

Your coverage of LA's other sports teams seems pretty balanced, why not the two biggest collegiate programs? I'm sure you wouldn't be hard pressed to find someone willing to cover 'SC for you...you could start with Scott Wolf or Ben Malcomson.

Ryan-

As a USC alum and die-hard fan, its quite diffucult to say that I'd much rather read something like this than, for example, anything Stewart Mandel of SI.com writes. Even despite the fact that he blatantly favors SC and this article isn't even about my team. I'm excited to see what emerges with your recruiting class. If I'm not able to get tickets to this years gauntlet, USC vs. UCLA party at my place...Fight on! =)
