Can the Dodgers Really Make the Postseason?

Why Is This Guy Still Pitching
Someone at work came up to me the other day sounding very optimistic about the Dodgers.

“They’ve been winning games again,” he said. “They have a chance to get to the playoffs.”

I really don’t like being the party pooper, but sometimes a situation dictates it.

“Look,” I replied, “How many teams are in front of them in the wild card?”

“Well there are the Padres, Phillies and Braves.”

“And don’t forget about the Rockies, Cub and Brewers that are just on the Dodger’s heels,” I added. “Now with this clusterfuck of a race, do you think all of those teams will tank at the same time the Dodgers start winning?”

And so the conversation went on for another 15 minutes.

But the main point: it will take a miracle for the Dodgers to make the playoffs. I know they are only 2 ½ games out of the wild card lead, but think about this. In order for the Dodgers to leapfrog over the Phillies, Braves and Padres, those three teams have to do some losing at some point. Also the Dodgers have to fend off the Cubs, Brewers and Rockies.

Here’s another way to look at it. The Dodgers won the wild card last year with the fewest amount of wins by an NL wild card team (with the exception of the strike-shortened 1995 season) with 88 wins. Let’s assume that’s the amount of wins needed to win the wild card. With 37 games left to go, that means the Dodgers have to go 24-13. And that is assuming it will only take 88 wins.

While it’s entirely possible the Dodgers will make the playoffs, I’m not going to hold my breath. With the consistently inconsistent play by the Dodgers, Ned Colletti making questionable signings during the off-season and Grady Little mismanaging games, I highly doubt I will be at Dodger Stadium this October watching yet another winless postseason.

Of course as I’m writing this, I just witnessed the Angel’s Garrett Anderson hit a grand slam against the Yankees in the bottom of sixth inning giving him 10 RBIs in one game. By the way the score as of now is 18-5, something a Dodger fan will not comprehend.

Anyhow I’m going to end this up now and start looking at the upcoming college football and NFL seasons. My predictions: LSU upsets USC in the BCS championship game, and New England Patriots defeats New Orleans Saints 28-27 on a missed last-second field goal by the Saints. Eh, not really.

can someone please tell brett tomko to stick to his mediocre painting and give up his shitty pitching career. Watching him kills me.

Tomko would make an excellent batting-practice pitcher.

On another note, I hate seeing Betemit in yankee pinstripes. I wish they hadn't traded him... unless it's part of a plan to acquire Alex Rodriguez. Yeah, right.

TOMKO IS THE WORST EVER!!
2-11 is not getting us to the post season, release that bag of dog poo, PLEASE!! Take the loss with this bastard.

fine then, Bramlett, write us off for the season. I fully expect to welcome you back into the supporters fold when the Boys in Blue come charging down the stretch. Good day, sir.
