i LOVE the paleta man! (men?) watermelon, coconut, tamarindo, i could eat 'em all day. the paleta man has been around since the dawn of time. it's funny that this is finally being "discovered." reading this reminded me of the vendors that have their fruit carts with fresh coconut, mango, cucumber, jicama and tons of other delicious things that they'll add salt, lime and chile to if you want. though it will probably be another few years before the la times picks up on those...

I had my first chile/mango paleta in Cuernavaca last year on a hot sunny day. The cold luscious mango mixed with the hot bite of chiles was heavenly torture.
