Jim Hahn Still Mayor?

City of LA Screen Shot of Former Mayor Hahn with CopsSo, you remember when the City had an issue knowing who the mayor of LA was back in November? Well, it appears there are still remnants of the Jim Hahn term of office on the LA City Website. As if the other issues affecting the Mayor's office aren't enough, now Villariagosa has a website that still has images of his predecessor (literally) floating around.

As you can see in this screenshot, behind the "ONE" is an image of LAPD officers surrounding the then-Mayor Hahn. True, the shot is not a prominent photo that is easily seen, but it is on the homepage of the City webpage, which does get a lot of views.

This brings up two important issues:

  1. The City website is not maintained as effectively as it should be.

  2. Perhaps the former Mayors should all be listed and photographed on the City's website. Just because they are no longer in office doesn't mean we should ignore their years of service. True, there is a downloadable PDF file of all the Mayor's buried within the Department of Cultural Affairs website (based on the portraits being public art), but there isn't a spot on the City's main site to celebrate the past leaders of our City.

So, let's see how long before this last memory of Hahn disappears. Maybe, the City will celebrate the past instead of trying to wipe it away as if the current elected officials are the only elected officials that matter. (What would Wachs, Tuttle, or Riordan think if there was no mention of them ever again in the City they served for so long?)

do you ever go up into City Hall where they have all the portraits of the mayors?

I'm amazed the city can function at all. From what I've heard, city employees can barely manage an hour of work a day.
The best way to improve the city would be to make all city employees actually live in the city of Los Angeles.

The city functions and many work 12-14 hour days 6 days a week.

Unfortunately, I see an uneven balance of leadership and employee skill or willingness to put in their full energy into a workday.

If you want to see how a good city department operates, check out the Bureau of Street Services (BSS). These people are on top of their game. Yes, the streets, sidewalks and trees are not perfect, but sit them down and they will give you straight answers with truth and reality behind them. You don't have to wonder if they are bullshitting you and you're glad they actually gave you a response in a timely manner.

City employees and elected officials need to look up to Bill Robertson, the Director of BSS, and use his system of constituent relations citywide.

"If my employees don't call or e-mail you back, then you call me and I'll take care of it."

The original post was Jim Hahn, right? Or, was it his sister?
