Right Now Van Halen is Getting Even Weirder

it's the new Van Halen everyone

Eddie, Alex, and Wolfgang Van Halen are teaming up with "Diamond" David Lee Roth for a new incarnation of Pasadena's greatest export, the band announced yesterday at the Four Seasons.

Wolfie is 16 and the rest of the fellas are in their 50s. On paper it's a disaster in the making, what with Eddie fresh out of rehab, Roth rebounding from his failed attempt to fill Howard Stern's shoes on NY morning radio, and the teenager trying to replace long-time bassist Michael Anthony who we can only assume took his Jack Daniels bass and perfect harmonies home with him.

In an attempt to make him feel comfortable, Van Halen let their newest member design the 25 son playlist.

Wolfgang Van Halen, 16, brings "a young energy and a spirit" to the band, Roth said, adding that the teenage rocker chose the tour's song list, which features "close to 25 of your greatest hits."

"You know every single song, you know every guitar lick, every woo, every kick, every jump, every drum lick," he said. "We can't afford to shirk that duty."

The band has been rehearsing since October and plans to exceed fans' expectations, Roth said.

"None of us want to give you less than our best," said Eddie Van Halen. "And we are at our best."

The band announced their fall US tour dates which includes a stop at Staples Center on November 20. Right now... it has yet to be announced when tickets will be going on sale for that show. May we recommend that you keep reading LAist over the next few days, or refresh this page like a fiend.

Also if you look closely at the Van Halen site via the link above, if you peek at the album covers in the background, there's no images of any Sammy-era albums.

Exactly how it should be.

If you looked closely at the VH website, you would have seen that not only were there no Sammy album covers, they'd also removed Mike from any of the album covers which are there, a totally classless (and possibly illegal, as they're copyrighted) move. Apparently either someone in their legal department or hordes of angry fans got them to replace the original album covers later in the day. This group doesn't belong on tour, they belong on reality TV...
